Fallout New Vegas: You Only Live Once Remastered - Part 16 - The Cazador Gambit
Storyline Progression
The player encounters a bug in the Old World Blues DLC where Dr. Boros does not provide Cazador poison glands after mission completion. This prevents crafting Turbo, a critical buff. Two solutions are available:
- Wait until the DLC is fully completed for the bug to possibly fix itself.
- Fight Cazadors directly to collect poison glands despite the danger.
The player chooses to fight Cazadors inside the DLC facilities to obtain glands for Turbo and access important upgrades, including a key implant available only in the Cazador facility.
After battling Cazadors and collecting glands, the player obtains a data tape for implant M5, which grants a 20% speed bonus while crouching. This effectively allows crouch-walking as fast as normal running.
Preparing for the final confrontation with Dr. Mobius and his giant robo-scorpion in the Forbidden Zone, the player uses stealth and distraction tactics—activating drone control to divert protectrons—to bypass enemies. The giant robo-scorpion is successfully shut down via a science skill check.
The player then meets Dr. Mobius, who, despite his mad scientist role, is surprisingly friendly and philosophical. After passing a high speech check (boosted by specific gear), the player reunites with their extracted brain. However, a dialogue bug causes an infinite loop, requiring a retry.
The brain explains the Think Tank’s motivation for keeping brains trapped and the risk of brains escaping back into the Mojave. The player returns to the Sink to reintegrate original organs, with some choices affecting poison resistance and perks.
Final negotiations with the Think Tank involve high-level science and speech skill checks to avoid combat and convince them to remain focused on science rather than the outside world.
The DLC concludes with an introspective and somewhat melancholic narrated ending about science, nostalgia, and the wasteland’s future, influenced by the player’s karma.
Finally, the player returns to Goodsprings, ready to pursue new quests and DLC content.
Gameplay Highlights & Strategies

- Use weapons that can stagger or cripple limbs for better control.
- Killing Cazadors grants a stacking perk that increases damage against them.
Stealth & Movement
- Use stealth boys to navigate hostile areas undetected.
- Utilize balcony exits for safe fast travel to avoid spawning Robo-Scorpions at main entrances.
- The M5 implant significantly improves crouch speed, aiding stealth play.
Boss Fight (Robo-Scorpion)
- Avoid direct combat by activating drone control terminals to distract enemies.
- Use a high science skill (100) to access emergency shutdown terminals and disable the boss.
- Keep distance and use ranged weapons to finish off the scorpion safely.
Dialogue & Skill Checks

- Use speech checks to avoid combat and gain extra XP.
- Be prepared for potential dialogue bugs requiring retries.

Bug Workarounds
- Use stealth boys and balcony fast travel to avoid enemy spawns.
- Save often due to frequent crashes in the Old World Blues DLC.
- Be cautious of dialogue bugs, such as the brain conversation loop.
