Summary

Bed-Making Procedure

1. Put on the bottom sheet. Center it along the mattress, tuck the edges underneath, and make neat hospital corners at all four corners.
2. Add the waterproof pad and small sheet. Position them across the mattress, with the small sheet over the pad, and tuck them in securely.
3. Position the upper sheet or blanket layer at the edge of the pad area and tuck its lower edge under the mattress.
4. Lay out the first blanket. Tuck its lower end under the mattress and fold the top edge back neatly.
5. Place the hot-water bottle near the patient’s feet, under the blanket, to help keep the patient warm.
6. Arrange the layers near the head of the bed. Place the additional pad near the head and spread a towel over it.
7. Add the final blanket to help prevent the patient from becoming cold. Tuck it in and form a neat triangular fold at the foot of the bed.
8. Remove the hot-water bottle and basin once the bed is arranged. The post-operative bed is then ready for the patient.
