Plot Summary

After school ends, Greg is relieved—until his mom starts noticing “mysterious packages” that threaten his secret plans to get rid of Manny. Greg rants about his family, calling his mom a “Karen,” describing his dad as a humorless robot, and claiming Manny is a menace. Greg even alleges Manny previously tried to kill Rodri by suffocating him with a used diaper.

Despite everything, Greg insists Rodri is the only “normal” person in the family and credits Rally for helping him stay sane.

Greg’s summer takes a sudden turn when his mom announces the whole family is going to China. This decision ignores past travel disasters and doubles down on Greg’s fear of flying. He complains that he’s stuck in economy while Manny gets advantages—like boarding early through a “business lane.” Manny also behaves suspiciously. Greg insists he saw something weapon-like hidden in Manny’s belongings and may even think Manny swallowed something shiny.
