The Uchiha Crisis

At 12, Uchiha Bayou is already trying to rewrite the future. He knows the Uchiha clan is headed for a massacre and is determined to stop it. His plan is audacious: turn Itachi, the boy destined to carry out the massacre, into the clan’s most important ally.

Bayou and Shisui gather intelligence through the clan’s “cat network”—which, as Bayou explains, really is a network of cats sneaking into places and returning with evidence. They show Fugaku the danger Danzo poses and begin preparing an evacuation route and stockpiles. Then Bayou asks Shisui for his headband, admitting that his own is currently on Naruto’s forehead. Shisui hands it over without asking questions.

Itachi is badly injured after Fugaku beats him, and Bayou uses a genjutsu to show him the future: Shisui’s death, Danzo’s manipulation, and the massacre. Itachi awakens his Mangekyo Sharingan inside the illusion. Bayou’s immediate reaction is less grief than a flash of game-system logic: if emotional illusions can awaken Uchiha eyes, perhaps Sasuke’s Mangekyo can be earned without anyone dying. He gives Itachi a mission instead of asking him to wallow in guilt. After a long night of healing, Itachi heads out through the evacuation tunnel beneath Bayou’s bedroom.

Danzo tries to repeat his attack on Shisui, but Shisui sends a shadow clone instead. Danzo thinks he has stolen Shisui’s eye—only to discover he’s holding a poison-gas decoy. The image of Konoha’s great schemer rolling around choking is one of Bayou’s more satisfying mental pictures.

Bayou’s First Mission

Bayou’s first mission with Captain Tenzo begins with a suspiciously urgent escort job. The team includes Izumi and a boastful young Inuzuka, while Ino secretly stows away in a crate to follow Bayou. When she’s discovered with potato-chip crumbs on her face, Tenzo—an experienced Anbu operative—has no idea what to do. Bayou’s blunt assessment of him is that he’s “a leash with a nice haircut.”

The real danger soon emerges: the “merchants” are impostors, and the mission order says Tenzo must kill everyone on the team except Bayou. Tenzo tears up the order rather than obey it, but the team is ambushed anyway. The Inuzuka teammate betrays them for a promised promotion.

Bayou throws out 140 shadow clones—not just to fight, but to grind experience in a real battle. After saving the wounded team, he fights off the attackers with a clever imitation of the Hyuga Gentle Fist, using medical chakra and his knowledge of pressure points.

When Bayou is caught in an explosion, Ino throws herself in front of a poisoned blade to save him. He keeps her alive with his newly acquired detoxification technique, then awakens three tomoe in both Sharingan. His next move is a layered illusion that traps the attackers in a series of identical clearings. From the outside, the enemies simply stand frozen while a 12-year-old walks past them one by one.

Bayou captures the disguised merchant leader, but later kills the traitorous Inuzuka with a chakra scalpel. His explanation is brutally direct: the traitor’s usefulness as evidence doesn’t outweigh the fact that he attacked Bayou’s friends. Meanwhile, Ino’s father, Inoichi, learns what happened and turns against Danzo.

Danzo’s Fall

Danzo summons Bayou to the Shimura compound and reveals the truth about his parents: Bayou’s father was recruited into Root, his mother was used in an experiment, and Danzo arranged their deaths. Bayou’s parents had managed to seal their Mangekyo powers inside their eyes to protect their son. Their recovered memories finally trigger Bayou’s own Mangekyo.

Danzo attacks, but Shisui arrives, and the Uchiha mobilize. Shisui’s enormous Susanoo holds Danzo aloft while Bayou uses their shared illusion to expose Danzo’s crimes to Konoha: illegal experiments, murders, and betrayals. The vision also gives the Uchiha clan a glimpse of the massacre Bayou has been trying to prevent. Families begin evacuating through the tunnel, and the shared vision unites the clan—including its rival factions. Even the elders who once opposed the plan come around.

Sasuke awakens his Sharingan and, seeing the future where his family is destroyed, breaks down in grief and relief that it hasn’t happened.

Danzo tries to sacrifice himself with a sealing technique, but Bayou reveals his Mangekyo ability, “Mind Mirror”: it predicts an opponent’s actions and makes Bayou immune to attacks he has already foreseen. He manifests a golden Susanoo, defeats Danzo, and uses the four-symbol seal to erase him. Shisui, Fugaku, Itachi, and Bayou then raise four Susanoo together over Konoha. Rather than attack the village, the Uchiha demand to negotiate.

The crisis ends Danzo’s power and breaks up Root. Bayou pushes for the Shimura clan to be stripped of its land and placed under Uchiha control, rather than wiped out. Konoha and the Uchiha then work together to prepare for the other villages, who are expected to exploit the apparent split between them.

The Third Hokage later dies after a final, bittersweet visit from Bayou. Asuma gives his father a cigarette, and the two share a quiet moment before Hiruzen passes away.

The War Fronts

The story then pivots to war. On the way out of Konoha, Ino catches up with Bayou to give him homemade three-color dango and a scroll of money and jutsu. The sweets are misshapen and, by Bayou’s report, so bad that even the dog won’t eat them—but he eats them anyway because she made them.

At the Mist front, Bayou tests a new fire technique on Kuramaru, an Inuzuka dog. The test leaves the dog’s head singed bald; Bayou’s consolation is that it’s summer and the fur will grow back. Later, he jokes about neutering the dog with a chakra scalpel, prompting Kuramaru to flee.

The battle turns against Mist when Bayou captures Pakura, the Sand’s Scorch Release hero. He discovers that her own Kazekage has effectively offered her up to the Mist as the price of a truce. Bayou shows her what awaits her and persuades her to turn against that fate. He then uses a disguised Pakura and shadow clones to lure the Mist into a trap, while Konoha’s forces ambush them through the mangroves.

Bayou clashes with Mei and Chojuro, gains another level during the fight, and unveils his second Mangekyo power: the “Reincarnation Seal,” which lets him manifest the soul of someone he has marked. In a grim reversal, Danzo—already dead—takes a lethal attack meant for Bayou, then is pulled back into the eye.

The battle ends with Mist retreating and Pakura alive, now wearing Uchiha robes. The recap closes as Bayou and Pakura arrive at the hard-pressed Wind front, where Shisui and the others are struggling against a much larger Sand force.
