Plot Summary

Journalist Deemas is sent to prison after his boss, Andy, is found brutally murdered. Before his arrest, Deemas had been investigating suspicious deaths connected to a nickel mine that destroyed protected forest in Borneo. Inside prison, he learns the killings may be tied to a supernatural creature that followed him from the forest—and attacks people consumed by anger.

Prison life is already dangerous: Officer Heffrey beats inmates, gangs control the blocks, and corrupt officials enjoy luxuries behind bars. Deemas is assigned to the cell of Tokek, a feared gang hitman. Tokek’s attempt to intimidate him ends when a monstrous double appears and kills him in the shower. Soon after, an enraged prisoner named Anton is killed in the kitchen, and a frustrated dance teacher meets a similarly gruesome fate. The killings leave prisoners terrified and suspicious of one another.

Six, a prisoner who has long pretended he can see ghosts, starts having headaches and suddenly discovers that he really can see colored auras. Red signals anger, while dark brown means simmering frustration—both can attract the creature. His friends realize they may survive by keeping calm, so dancing, praying, and meditating become unlikely emergency tactics. During one fight, Anggoro even dances while Bimo beats him, waiting for Six to confirm that his aura has settled.

The uneasy humor continues when Anggoro uses an earpiece to deliver a barrage of psychology jargon to Heffrey, finishing with a crude insult that sends the officer into a rage—and straight into the creature’s path.

Anggoro’s group eventually discovers that Deemas has no aura, suggesting the creature is using him as a host. The spirit’s victims have been staged like macabre works of art, and Anggoro suspects it came to the prison for a reason. The group links the Borneo mine to Prakosa, a powerful politician held in the cushy, privileged Block K. With help from Donald, an officer who turns against the corrupt warden Sapto, they make a risky attempt to reach him.

While the prison erupts into a fight, Irfan uses his old phone-scam skills to impersonate Prakosa’s younger self and confront him with the ideals he abandoned. The provocation makes Prakosa furious, and the creature appears in the form of his younger self to kill him. After Prakosa dies, Six sees that Deemas has an aura again: the spirit is gone.

Six months later, newly uncovered security footage shows that Deemas wasn’t in Andy’s office when Andy was killed, clearing him of the murder. Deemas prepares to return to Borneo, hoping the creature has gone home too. Six sees a rare gold aura around him—a sign of inner peace.
