The fourth story features a 44-year-old single man planning an “unwedding” party. After years of attending and contributing to other people’s weddings, showers, and family celebrations, he wants to invite those same people to a party with a registry. His point: single people are often expected to spend time and money celebrating couples while receiving little consideration themselves. He frames the event as a playful way to ask for some reciprocity.

Finally, a mother says her 14-year-old son has been her main emotional support for years. When he gets suspended from school during an already difficult period for her, she tells him he is her “only reason to live” and that losing him would destroy her. Her husband objects to putting that burden on a teenager. The narrator agrees, describing the behavior as emotional abuse and emotional incest: the boy should be allowed to be a child, not his mother’s therapist.
