Summary

On the very first day of school, Kulu the honey bear wakes up extremely early (around 05:00). He gets cleaned up and even brushes his teeth—until his mouth is full of foam. He’s dressed neatly in new green clothes prepared by his mother, and he’s rewarded with a hearty breakfast of bread, jam, honey, and milk. Before leaving, his mother reminds him to pack lunch and—most importantly—to share food with friends.

Kulu and his mother ride to school on her beautiful red bicycle, enjoying the shady, green, tree-lined road together. When they arrive, Kulu becomes nervous because he doesn’t know anyone yet. He clings tightly to his mother and even begs to go back home. But the teacher, Mrs. Maleo, reassures him warmly—inviting him into the class and helping him settle in.

Inside the classroom, the day begins with introductions. Each child shares their name and what they like. Kulu’s fear fades as he hears how welcoming and excited everyone is. When it’s his turn, Kulu proudly introduces himself as someone who likes honey jam bread. After the introductions, the school bell rings and the kids rush out happily.

On the way home, Kulu tells his mother that he enjoyed the songs from class—especially one he says he often sings while riding his bicycle. His mother listens happily, and the day ends with Kulu feeling proud and excited for what’s ahead.
