We Need to Talk About Outside Xtra

Quick recap

Outside Extra is changing format to make more varied videos. List shows are moving to the main Outside Xbox channel, and Outside Extra will return to chats, challenges, quizzes and other fun bits. They’re also launching a new biweekly video podcast.

Highlights and notable moments

• Why the change

  • The weekly “seven things” list videos are hugely time-consuming: each list requires research, writing and footage for seven games.
  • The lists had turned Outside Extra into “just the list channel,” so the team wants to regain the channel’s original identity.

• The practical change

  • Outside Xbox becomes the exclusive home of the weekly seven-things lists (Thursdays).
  • The lists’ presenter will now appear in those videos on Outside Xbox.
  • Outside Extra will stop producing list videos and will use the freed-up time for variety content.

• New content teased for both channels

  • Returning challenges, sofa chats, quizzes, and debates (the “correct opinions” segment).
  • Longer gameplay projects on Outside Xbox, such as a Resident Evil “Reququum” playthrough and special Hitman content for its 10th anniversary.

• New podcast

  • A first-ever Outside Xbox/Outside Extra gaming podcast is launching soon.
  • Format: video on YouTube every two weeks, plus audio on podcast platforms.
  • Content will cover what they’ve been playing and gaming news.

Jokes and bits

• They poke fun at the shift in tone:

“I’m worried I’ll only be able to speak in my list voice.”

• Comic moments include:

  • A funny opinion: difficult horror games don’t necessarily make for scarier experiences — illustrated by an anecdote about being stalked down a tunnel after replaying it multiple times.
  • The closing bit: a deliberately awkward sign-off (“comment, like, subscribe, hit that bell”) that flickers into failure, some playful “magic” banter and laughter — they break the outro for a laugh.

Call to action

They encourage viewers to subscribe and hit the bell so they don’t miss the new era of Outside Extra.
