Overview

The video recaps a horror film about Sister Maria, a devout nun whose life in a remote convent is upended after she meets a mysterious, shepherd-like man in the forest. He offers her an apple, and she later discovers that he is Lucifer, appearing in different forms to tempt her away from her faith.

Plot Summary

As Maria becomes increasingly troubled by visions and desire, the narrator, Ren, punctuates the grim story with crude jokes and playful euphemisms—especially about the stranger’s anatomy and the shepherd’s sheep. He also jokes about who might have fathered a sheep and describes Maria’s encounters as “farming.”

Beneath the comedy, the story grows darker. The convent’s Black servant is mistreated because of her skin color, and Maria fails to protect her when she attempts to take her own life.

Under Lucifer’s influence, Maria tries to seduce Marcelo, a young shepherd. Later, at Marcelo’s home, she attacks someone with a knife. Her perception shifts, and she realizes the victim is Marcelo’s grandmother. A fire breaks out, killing the grandmother.

Back at the convent, the Abbess confronts Maria about her behavior. Maria kills her and hides the body. In a cave, Lucifer offers Maria leadership of the convent in exchange for abandoning God. She eventually accepts, and the sisters choose her as their new leader.

The promise turns sour when Maria sees the sisters turn against her and stab her. But the film complicates these apparent supernatural events: Maria’s body has no wounds, and the sisters say she died of illness after being isolated during a plague. Much of what she experienced may have been hallucinations. Still, the final shot shows Lucifer again in the guise of a shepherd, leaving open the possibility that the devil was real after all.
