Summary of "CUBOFIT: Innovación deportiva para la formación y el emprendimiento (SE) - Universidad de Granada"
The video features David Cabello Manrique, a professor at the University of Granada’s Faculty of Sports Sciences and head of the Science and Sports research group, presenting "CUBOFIT," an innovative sports concept designed to meet the growing demand for outdoor exercise spaces, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. CUBOFIT repurposes anti-corrosive, vandal-resistant maritime containers into modular fitness units that can be installed in various urban or natural settings, such as parks, beaches, public institutions, or underutilized spaces. These containers, called "fit cubes," range from 7 to over 15 square meters and contain about 10 functional training stations, allowing multiple users or groups of different ages to exercise simultaneously.
The project, developed by the University of Granada in collaboration with several departments, focuses not only on creating the physical infrastructure but also on developing specialized training methodologies tailored to the fit cube environment. A key goal is to foster entrepreneurship and youth employment by offering training in both fitness instruction and business management related to operating CUBOFIT units. The initiative works closely with the Andalusian government and the Andalusian Institute of Sport to distribute fit cubes across cities, smaller towns, and alternative locations like gardens, parks, workplaces, and beaches.
The university has installed a fit cube in the Fuentenueva campus corridors, providing access to both the university community and the general public, showcasing the benefits of this innovative outdoor fitness solution.
