Summary

Desmond has spent his life wondering who his real parents are. Raised by police officer Harold after being found as a baby during a robbery, he is bullied at school for being an “orphan” and resents Harold for seeming more interested in the old case than in being his dad. A joke about Desmond’s sneakers and appetite making him “the most expensive charity case” briefly lightens their argument.

The mystery begins to crack when Desmond finds words on his baby blanket: “To the future prince of Quadropolis.” After asking around, he learns that Quadropolis is rumored to be a hidden, high-tech city built for the ultra-rich. Harold recognizes the name and seeks help from a former criminal who claims to know the way in. The criminal bargains for freedom, and Desmond and Harold reluctantly set off with him.

Inside Quadropolis, they discover a dazzling city preparing to launch a shuttle into space. A local tells them that the city’s founders, Cornelius and Aurora Luxar, lost a baby years ago. Desmond is convinced they are his parents, but the founders dismiss him as another impostor, wary after previous false claims. Desmond’s attempts to reach them lead to a chase, tighter security, and an unauthorized appearance on the city’s news broadcast. Even when he pleads for a DNA test, the founders put him off until after the launch.

Meanwhile, the former criminals—Walter King and Marco—are plotting to hijack the shuttle and seize control of global satellite systems, threatening to hold the world hostage. Desmond learns of the plan and warns the founders, but the gang gets aboard and launches anyway. He sneaks onto the shuttle and stops them with a grenade, saving Quadropolis and the world.

With the crisis over, a quiet DNA test confirms that Desmond is the Luxars’ son. He is finally welcomed into the family, but chooses not to abandon Harold, the father who raised him. The Luxars apologize to Harold and invite him to stay too, leaving Desmond with a happy ending—and, as he jokes, three parents backing him up.
