Homemade Fabric Softener

Ingredients

• 2 liters of water
• 20 g white clay
• 2 g gum arabic
• 1 teaspoon baking soda (about 5 g)
• About 5.4 g lemon essential oil or fragrance

Equipment and Method

1. Set aside a 2-liter jug. Weigh the clay, gum arabic, and baking soda.
2. Beat the baking soda and clay together until no lumps remain.
3. Add the gum arabic and continue mixing.
4. Add the lemon essential oil or chosen fragrance, mixing until well incorporated. Use a spatula to scrape in any residue.
5. Transfer the mixture to a container, preferably one that has been reused or recycled. Shake well before each use.

Note: Water is listed as an ingredient, but the subtitles don’t clearly explain when or how to add it. The thickener is also referred to inconsistently as gum arabic and “xantana” (possibly xanthan gum).

Tip: Customize the aroma with a different essential oil or fragrance.
