Baldur’s Gate 3 - Part 20 - Breaking The Mold
Storyline
The player’s initial goal was to rob the Zentim vault but instead ended up in the Underdark, where they interacted with mushroom people, including the Sovereign and his circle. The mushroom sovereign shared a tragic history involving dark dwarves who invaded their lands, killing many mushroom people and converting their corpses into new mushroom beings.
The player was tasked with cleansing the “rot” by confronting the dwarven invaders near Lakes Edge. Along the way, a poisoned gnome named Fooler was rescued and cured. She belongs to the Ironhand clan, expert artisans from Baldur’s Gate, who owe the player a favor if helped.
The gnome clan had been captured by dwarves mining in ancient ruins, and the player agreed to help rescue them. Meanwhile, Gale revealed his backstory involving his relationship with the goddess Mistra, his ambition to restore a lost fragment of the Weave of magic, and the dangerous Nether’s blight (a magical tumor) inside him that must be kept fed or it will erupt catastrophically.
Discussions also touched on Shadowheart’s religious dogma and pain, with the player attempting to persuade her about her strict beliefs. Aarian expressed distress over his vampire affliction and lost identity.
Exploring the Underdark further, the player gathered allies including a sovereign from a wiped-out mushroom colony who can raise dead enemies as allies. They encountered and fought dwarven enemies, including invisible deep dwarves and a powerful level 7 dwarf who summoned zombies.
Combat tactics involved using terrain advantages (such as pushing enemies off cliffs), spells like Shatter, disarming strikes, and coordinated attacks with party members like Lazelle, who builds lightning charges and gains temporary HP.
After defeating the dwarven forces and their summoned undead, the mushroom sovereign offered a reward and a new quest to hunt down a dwarf who had hunted them. The player discovered clues about forging adamantine at a grand forge in the Underdark, moving closer to crafting a powerful weapon.
The episode ended with plans to head toward the forge and rescue more gnomes.
