Story Summary

An anxious ant wanders through the forest searching for food. Eventually, it finds an apple tree heavy with fruit—but the tree is across a fast-flowing river. Driven by hunger, the ant tries to swim to the other side. The current knocks it around, and the ant begins to sing/scream for help.

Unfortunately, no other animals come to rescue it, and the ant nearly gives up as its energy runs out.

Just in time, a dove spots the struggling ant. The dove quickly plucks a leaf nearby, drops it into the river like a makeshift life raft, and the ant climbs onto the leaf, swimming to safety. The ant is grateful, and the story jumps ahead a few days to show how the dove’s kindness has consequences.

Later, a hunter enters the forest and targets the dove while it’s perched on the tree. The ant witnesses the danger and realizes the hunter is aiming to shoot its savior. In a burst of urgency, the ant rushes forward and bites/attacks the hunter’s leg, causing the hunter to jerk, fall, and accidentally drop or release his weapon. The resulting gunshot startles the dove, which finally recognizes the threat and flies away to escape.

With the hunter thwarted and both animals safe, the ant and dove thank each other and become close friends, staying together afterward.
