Edge of Honor Commentary Summary

Matt opens by thanking Mark for requesting the commentary and inviting viewers to watch Edge of Honor alongside him. The VHS-style opening reminds him of one of his favorite parts of renting movies: the surprise trailers. He jokes about Prayer of the Rollerboys, saying it is hard to find roller-skating villains intimidating, and tries to identify familiar faces in another action trailer.

Plot and Commentary

A group of young scouts discover weapons being smuggled through the Pacific Northwest. When the smugglers realize the teens have found their stash, the group flees through the woods. They eventually meet Meredith Salinger’s character, a survivor whose family was attacked, and learn that local law enforcement is involved with the criminals. In the final stretch, the teens use improvised forest traps against the armed men.

Matt praises the lush woodland setting and some of the practical effects, including convincing blood squibs. He also gives the finale credit for attempting something different from a straightforward shootout. However, much of his commentary focuses on the film’s implausible logic: characters leave useful clues behind, abandon weapons they could take, and construct elaborate traps involving enormous trees and pulleys. He finds the finale visually fun, but increasingly hard to believe.

Matt also spends considerable time criticizing Corey Feldman. He argues that Feldman’s prominent billing does not match how much the film focuses on his character. While he considers Feldman’s performance acceptable compared with some of his other work, he uses the commentary to revisit his broader dislike of the actor and question some of his public claims about Corey Haim. Matt also notes that Feldman and Scott Reeves both appeared in Friday the 13th films.

Verdict

Matt considers Edge of Honor neither a disaster nor a hidden gem, but a forgettable, slow-moving film with underdeveloped characters. In his view, the scenery is its best feature.
