Overview

1) Active war zones (or near them)

• They won’t travel where there is ongoing military conflict or active engagements.
• They also avoid planning flights that pass over or near those regions, citing safety concerns from “horrible stories.”

2) Currently politically unstable places

• They avoid countries or regions where instability is actively high—e.g., Haiti during periods when gangs took control.
• They may consider places after conditions improve and stabilize, but not while the situation remains volatile, since conditions can quickly worsen (or suddenly improve).

3) Overly dangerous locations (e.g., extreme-risk countries)

• They specifically say they won’t go to places like North Korea or Somalia, because the danger level isn’t worth it.
• They note they will reassess if conditions improve, contrasting this with earlier travel to places that others criticized as dangerous—such as:
  • Rwanda (linked to the genocide, framed as ~30 years ago)
  • El Salvador
  • Colombia during the past era of narco violence
• Their approach is to research current conditions; if it isn’t safe for them, they don’t believe it’s safe for viewers or families either.
