The Angry Joe Show Reviews VisionQuest

The Angry Joe Show reviews the first two episodes of VisionQuest, opening with a complaint about Disney+’s looming annual price increase. The hosts question whether the service still has enough Marvel and Star Wars shows to justify the cost—and whether anyone should subscribe just for this series.

Spoiler-Free Take

The reviewers find the premiere promising but uneven. White Vision’s search for his identity is an intriguing premise, and Paul Bettany and James Spader are clear highlights. Their scenes together feature sharp, intelligent dialogue. The series also has strong effects and some satisfying action.

However, the emotional beats—especially those involving Vision’s son, Tommy—haven’t landed for the hosts yet. They find Tommy and his thief girlfriend hard to care about, and call one of the AI personalities, Edith, irritating rather than funny.

The hosts’ biggest complaint is that the writing sometimes makes Vision seem much less intelligent or powerful than the show has established. He can effortlessly destroy armed attackers, then fall for an obvious trap. They like the series enough to keep watching, but don’t think it’s worth rushing out to buy a Disney+ subscription.

Initial premiere scores range from 6 to 8 out of 10.

Spoilers

Vision lives among people while trying to understand who he is. He also retreats into his mind to talk with the AIs stored there, including Ultron. A hired mercenary known as the Paladin targets Vision by capturing Tommy. Vision’s attempts to rescue his son lead to a brutal fight, but the hosts criticize the contrived trap that leaves Vision temporarily incapacitated. They also mock the Paladin’s claim to have a code against killing civilians after he kills people anyway.

The series’ darker moments stand out. Vision kills several attackers in graphic fashion, while Jarvis sacrifices himself to preserve the other AIs—a moment that finally moves one of the reviewers. Meanwhile, Ultron appears to be manipulating events and may already have found a way out of Vision’s mind.

The hosts are curious about the mystery but remain unsure whether the remaining episodes will focus enough on Vision and Ultron rather than Tommy’s storyline.
