Bardo museum attack suspect had been rescued off migrant boat, say police

Italian police reported that a 22-year-old Moroccan man arrested in connection with the Bardo Museum shooting in Tunisia had arrived in Italy about a month before the attack.

Reuters photos reportedly show Abdil Majid H waiting in a Sicilian port to disembark from a Navy vessel that had rescued him at sea along with other migrants.

Investigation Details

Investigators said they are “not sure” of the suspect’s movements after he arrived in Sicily. However, sources close to the case told Reuters they were 99% sure he was in Italy during the March attack.

Tunisian Authorities’ Account

On the Tunisian side, authorities stated they have arrested most individuals believed responsible for the attack, which was carried out by militants linked to hardline religious groups. The attack resulted in the deaths of 20 tourists.
