Van Zeller notes that local fixers, producers, and journalists may face the greatest personal risks if sources are exposed.

Insys Pharmaceuticals Investigation

Van Zeller recalls her team’s investigation into Insys Pharmaceuticals, which alleged that the company illegally promoted its fentanyl product for uses beyond those approved. She says the company’s CEO was given an opportunity to respond, after which the team received a cease-and-desist order.

She argues that powerful executives can be more intimidating to journalists than cartel figures because they can deploy legal and financial resources.

Epstein Files

Van Zeller doubts the public will see full disclosure of the Epstein files. She suggests that even if more information emerged, some people might distrust it. She and interviewer Andy Stumpf argue that public pressure and voters’ voices are needed to push the government toward disclosure.
