Summary

Qiao Yueshu dies in her first life believing her fiancé, Lu Yuanzhou, might eventually love her. Only after her death does she learn the truth: Lu had planned to marry her sister, Qiao Jingyi, but gave Jingyi Yueshu’s college admission opportunity and married Yueshu as “compensation.” He repeatedly interrupted Yueshu’s attempts to study, and she eventually died after bearing seven children.

Reborn before the damage is done, Yueshu decides to reclaim her future and stop chasing Lu’s affection. Her family still favors Jingyi, while Lu shows he remembers Jingyi’s preferences and needs far better than Yueshu’s. The favoritism turns cruel: Jingyi frames Yueshu for stealing a necklace, and the family believes her. Lu punishes Yueshu rather than trusting her. Later, when Jingyi is injured, they even pressure Yueshu to provide skin for a graft. Yueshu finally escapes and heads to Haicheng University.

There, she meets Zhou Mingxuan, a kind teacher who helps her on the journey and encourages her studies. At university, Yueshu thrives: she excels academically and wins recognition as a writer. Lu eventually tracks her down and insists she return, but she tells him she earned her place at school herself and wants a life of her own.

Jingyi’s and the family’s lies unravel when they make a scene at the university, accusing Yueshu of stealing Jingyi’s admission and behaving improperly with Zhou. The school verifies Yueshu’s admission and exam results; Jingyi’s credentials are exposed as fraudulent, and she is expelled. Evidence from Jingyi’s diary reveals how she manipulated the family and Lu.

Jingyi later arranges another smear campaign against Yueshu, but students and staff rally around her. The people hired to attack Yueshu are caught and identify Jingyi as the instigator. Jingyi dies while trying to flee the police.

Yueshu refuses to resume her relationship with Lu or reconcile with her parents. When they later come asking for money, she gives them a small sum as repayment for raising her and tells them their ties are over. Lu, meanwhile, faces consequences for his conduct and is left regretting how he treated her.

After graduation, Yueshu becomes a successful writer and marries Zhou. Her parents disrupt the wedding, hoping to claim money, but the police remove them. Lu appears only to apologize and wish her well; Yueshu makes clear that she has moved on. He later volunteers for a remote border post and dies defending his country. Yueshu donates the money he left for her to help others whose chance to study might otherwise be taken away. The story ends with Yueshu and Zhou building the life she chose for herself.
